The Heart of TMAP
At the heart of the Tamborine Mountain Arts Precinct is Kate Tardy, a cherished wife and mother from the founding family. Kate tragically lost her battle to breast cancer in February 2023. Her deep love for the arts has inspired our vision to create a flourishing arts centre on Tamborine Mountain.
This initiative, launched with a heartfelt petition shortly after her passing, has garnered significant community support, reflecting a shared commitment to fostering local talent and building a unique, thriving space for the arts community in her memory.
KATE TARDY | Lover of all things creative
Kate Tardy was a woman of many talents, renowned as a prolific painter whose work adorns homes across Australia and beyond. Deeply embedded in the cultural scene of Tamborine Mountain, Kate immersed herself in the arts community. She became an integral part of the Tamborine Mountain Arts Collective, lent her voice to the local choir, and, with her multifaceted skills as a writer, director, and costume designer, quickly ascended to the role of Vice President of the Tamborine Mountain Little Theatre. There, she left a lasting impact, directing five plays, most of which were her original works, and bringing her creative vision to life through costume and set design. Kate's influence extended to the Spotlight Theatre on the Gold Coast, as Vice President, she directed eleven productions, earning the Gold Coast Theatre Alliance Hero Award in 2020 for inspiring young talent in the theatre community.
Kate was a dynamic presence, known for her kindness, generosity, and unwavering positivity. Her ability to bring laughter and lend a helping hand made her a beloved figure.
In honour of her remarkable life and contributions, we aim to establish the Kate Tardy Arts Prize, a tribute to continue her legacy of nurturing and celebrating the arts community she cherished.
